Whyalla has once again stamped itself as a big-time concert destination with news that Aussie music legend Jimmy Barnes is coming to town next year.

Zaccaria Concerts and Touring has announced the BY THE C concert in Whyalla. Jimmy Barnes will be headlining a music spectacular at The Oval at Whyalla High that also includes support acts Daryl Braithwaite, Ian Moss, Richard Clapton and Ross Wilson.

BY THE C has come about after months of negotiations with the City of Whyalla to lay the groundwork for one of the biggest concerts seen in Whyalla in recent years.

For Whyalla, BY THE C follows on from the hugely successful Hidden Festival earlier this year and our own uneARTh Festival every Easter. Council CEO Chris Cowley said Whyalla should be proud that big promoters are starting to see Whyalla as part of the major concert circuit.

“This is exciting news for Whyalla and every music lover in the city,” Chris said.

“We don’t need to tell anyone what a legend of Australian music Jimmy Barnes is. He’ll be singing at this year’s AFL grand final and then we’re going to see him live, right here in Whyalla, early next year.

“Whyalla is putting itself on the map for so many reasons and great concerts like this are another reason people are marking Whyalla in their must-go-to diary.

“Council is proud to be supporting this event.”

BY THE C, presented by Zaccaria Concerts and Touring, hits Whyalla on Saturday February 16 at The Oval At Whyalla High with gates opening at 2pm.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale Wed Sept 26th at 9am (local time). General tickets go on sale on Thursday, September 27 at 10am (local time). Tickets are purchased from www.ticketmaster.com.au

JIMMY BARNES: Jimmy is synonymous with Australian rock’n’roll. As the legendary front man of Cold Chisel, and through his own chart-topping solo career - his incendiary live show includes classics like Khe Sanh, Flame Trees and Working Class Man - having had 15 No. 1 albums in Australia  – surpassing The Beatles’ record.  Over the last two years his two volumes of memoirs – Working Class Boy and Working Class Man have both been bestselling books and they have also both won ABIA Awards as Australia’s Best Biography and the associated Stories & Songs tours have attracted some of the best reviews of Jimmy’s already stellar career.  Jimmy Barnes in the flesh is the epitome of a rock experience, and his performance on stage at By The C promises to deliver all that and more!

DARYL BRAITHWAITE: In a distinguished career spanning more than 45 years, Daryl Braithwaite is proof that he is of our country’s true music icons.  In 2017, he was inducted into the coveted ARIA Hall of Fame and the longevity of his recording career is a testament to his enduring talent.  His many timeless songs have crossed generations of Aussie music fans and his consistency as a performer has never wavered – he’s touring regularly to packed crowds around the country.  Starting his career in the 1970s as the front man for Sherbet, Daryl was crowned King of Pop and the band produced 20 national Top 40 singles.  In the 1980’s, Daryl set out on his own solo career, releasing smash hit singles such as One Summer, As The Days Go By and The Horses to name a few.  The compilation, Days Go By, was released in 2017 and debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA chart - the double album contains four new songs and his solo hits including The Horses, which is now part of Australian culture.

IAN MOSS: Respected as one of Australia’s iconic musicians, Ian Moss delivers an unforgettable sound – not only as a telling soloist on guitar but especially with his silken voice, ringing with clarity and resonating with pure soul.  While primarily recognised as an axeman of tenacity and sweet melodic sensibility, Ian’s distinctive vocal is the essential signature of his soulful, bluesy muse – as it has been since his first tentative foray into music during the early 1970s.  Moss has released five incredible & dynamic studio albums – the No. 1 & multi-platinum, Matchbook, Worlds Away, Petrolhead, Let's all Get Together and Soul on West 53rd.  2018 has seen a new chapter in Ian’s career as he released the new self-titled studio album, his sixth, and headed on the road for what has been his biggest national tour in decades.  In 2007, he told the Sydney Morning Herald, "I haven't made my definitive album yet."  Ten years later with his the self-titled Ian Moss, he might have just done that.

RICHARD CLAPTON: When he was 16 he inveigled his way into a Sydney hotel to hang out with the Rolling Stones. From that day on, Richard Clapton knew he was going to be a rock star. It's now almost 50 years since that fateful day -years filled with a lifetime of incredible experiences, outrageous good times and a catalogue of iconic and timeless songs. Through the glory years of rock 'n' roll, in cities as varied as London, Berlin, Sydney, Los Angeles and Paris, Richard forged his own career and built up a significant body of work while living, loving and partying with the biggest names in the Australian and international music world. For 40 years, Richard Clapton has been, above all else, a songwriter-a wry observer of human behaviour and an astute commentator on the Australian condition. His best songs-Deep Water, The Best Years of Our Lives, Goodbye Tiger, Glory Road, Lucky Country, Girls on the Avenue, Trust Somebody and Capricorn Dancer - capture the essence of this country and the meaning of our lives like few others.

ROSS WILSON: From Daddy Cool to Mondo Rock and as a solo artist with no less than 26 ARIA Top 40 hits to his credit as a singer, songwriter and producer, Ross Wilson is one of Australia’s most awarded, respected and well-known artists.  From the legendary band Daddy Cool, whose No. 1 anthem Eagle Rock and debut album "Daddy Who?" smashed all previous sales records in Australia, to the 1977 formation of Mondo Rock, delivering 80’s hits Cool World, State of The Heart, Chemistry, No Time, and Come Said The Boy and into the 21st century as a solo performer, Wilson has never been out of the limelight.  Twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, Wilson’s live performances are legendary.
